The Girl [ep25]

“I don’t have a choice.
Or else, he would sleep
till morning. I already
waited six hours to
have that interview.”
“Sis, you are incredible! I
really admire you, you
are the best. Hahaha!
So you woke him up
with your screeching
voice.”
My face flushed. I
suddenly felt so
embarrass for what I
did. I wished I didn’t
sing. Eros Petrakis
might think that I was
so stupid. Darn.
“Yup, and now, I
regretted doing it.” I
know I sang like a badly
drank karaoke singer in
pubs, but I loved music,
and I loved to sing. But
it seemed like music
didn’t love me back.
I used to sing in the
shower and poured my
heart out, every
morning before going to
school. It was my way
of waking dad also. Yes,
he would wake up
because of my horrible
voice.I became his alarm
clock. My family often
teased me about it that
it became a household
joke. I had to at that
time, so we wouldn’t
be late. Every weekday,
he would drop me in our
school before he headed
to his work.
“But you need to be
very careful Jade. It’s
not easy to work with
a man like Eros Petrakis,
so authoritative and
high handed. You have
to be very patient.”
“I know. That’s what I
thought too. He thinks
he’s so high and mighty.
He was even so rude
and arrogant when I
first saw him in the
coffee shop.” My
shoulders slumped all of
a sudden. I remembered
when we collided
outside the coffee
shop, he never
apologized and didn’t
accept his fault. Then,
in his office, when I
was hired, he dismissed
me abruptly.
“But, you will be getting
a triple of your salary at
the coffee shop.” Saph
butted in. “That’s a lot
of money. Just look at
the bright side, Dee.”
“That much? What
exactly is your job?”
Mom got very
suspicious all of a
sudden.
“Yes mom. I… I’ll be
working as his… er… his…
um…”
“His what? Don’t tell
me you’re going to sell
your soul to the devil.”
Mom’s voice started to
rise.
“What? What are you
talking about, mom. Of
course not.”
“She was hired to
prepare his coffee.”
Saph interrupted.
“To prepare his coffee?
So you are his
secretary?”
“Actually, no. I’ll be
preparing his coffee
only.”
“What? I don’t
understand. I’m sure he
has a secretary or
personal assistant to
do that. How come he’ll
be paying you with that
big amount? That’s
impossible.”
“Mom, calm down. I’ll
tell you what really
happened.”
I explained everything
to my mom, about Mr.
Petrakis’ visit at the
coffee shop, his
likeness for the cup of
espresso I made and
his unexpected offer.
“So, that’s it.”
“He must really enjoy
the coffee you
prepared. Any sane
person wouldn’t offer
that, no matter how
rich he is. When are you
going to start working
for him?”
“Tomorrow. I have to
be there in his
apartment at exactly
five in the morning.”
“That early? Why in his
apartment? I thought
you’ll be working in his
office.” Mom asked too
many questions. She
was so curious and
worried too.
I sighed. “He probably
drinks his coffee at five
a.m., when he wakes
up.”
“Wow, an early riser
billionaire.” Saph giggled.
“He’s very handsome
too, and a hottie. I
guess, he jogs every
morning, or do exercises
like sit-ups, push-ups
and bench press.”
I shrugged my
shoulders. “He’s no
prince charming, Saph.”
