South East Governors Vow To End Pro-Biafra Protests

The Nation reports have it that governors from the south east region of the Nigeria have decided to ensure a lasting solution to the series of pro-Biafran protests by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The governors who took the decision after a meeting in Enugu on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, made the resolve to solve the issue of the pro-Biafran protests by IPOB as well as that of the Movement for the
Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), while warning the protesters to maintain peace as it is the only way to ensure economic development of the zone.

According to the report, the governors will consult widely with “Ohanaeze, traditional rulers, development unions, clergy and other stakeholders on how to ensure lasting peace in the zone.”
Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha who read the communiqué issues after the meeting stated: “In furtherance to this, the South East governors scheduled an emergency meeting of stakeholders on Sunday 22nd November, 2015 in Enugu.”

All National Assembly members, ministers and several other invited guests from the zone were present at the meeting.
Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, Rochas Okorocha of Imo state and the deputy governor of Anambra state, Nkem Okeke were all present at the meeting with Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi, as the major absentee at the meeting.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in an address on Monday, also noted that nothing can obstruct the nation’s peace in the wake of the unrest which has been prevalent in the eastern part of the country.
