2 Suicide Bombers Arrested In Connection To Explosion
The police authority said two possible suicide bombers
were arrested in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state, on Thursday, July
9, while trying to sell improvised explosive device (IED) given to them.
Investigation revealed that the would-be bombers were 9 and 11-years-old respectively. They were given the IED to take to Bauchare, a suburb in Yola.
They were arrested after they tried selling the IED, which exploded and injured one of them.
The incident happened opposite the Federal Road Safety Commission office, along
Numan road, Yola.
The state’s Road Safety Corp Commander, Luka Ikpi, who confirmed the incident, said: “The two bombers are little boys,” a witness, who works at a fuel filling station close to the scene of the explosion, said. “I saw when they took the explosives to one baba that buys scraps and the baba said he is not going to buy because it was small, they left.
“I was standing here in this fuel filling station when those boys left the baba but just as they got to the road, there was an explosion. One of them was injured and they started running.
“When I heard the noise, I rushed out but I was told it was tyre that got burst. But the sound I heard was not that of tyre. So I asked my officer in charge of intelligence to find out.
“It was when he came back that he confirmed my fears, and told me that two little boys have been apprehended. I then arrested them and handed over them to the police.”
Likewise, the police bomb department confirmed the incident. They said the two boys are already in custody, adding that more arrests have been made following tip up from the would-be suicide bombers.
Meanwhile, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo recently visited Yola, as a part of his working trip to Boko Haram-ravaged states.
