A team of Indian-American researchers have created a revolutionary hydrogel-based condom that contains plant-based antioxidants, which can fight the virus in case of condom breaking.
The non-latex condom, which has been described as the “Super Condom” enhances sexual stimulation and can also kill the HIV virus in case of a condom breakage, according to reports.
Mahua Choudhury, assistant professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center’s Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy reportedly said: “We are not only making a novel material for condoms to prevent the HIV infection, but we are also aiming to eradicate this infection if possible,”

“Super condom could help fight against HIV infection and may as well prevent unwanted pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases and If we succeed, it will revolutionize the HIV prevention initiative”.
According to the Times of India, the condom is yet to hit the market and is currently waiting an approval on its patent application.
The researchers reportedly hope to test the condom within the next six months before it hits the market.
The “super condom” could prove popular with users who prefer non-latex condom. A clinical research has found that a substantial proportion of users prefer non-latex condoms, despite, “non-latex condoms [being] more likely to break or slip off during intercourse or withdrawal”. According to the World Health Organisation, a clinical trial found that, “non-latex condoms appear to be an acceptable alternative for those with a higher need for sensitivity or those with aversion to latex condoms”.
The “super condom”, thus could be an acceptable alternative for many, which may help prevent HIV, while enhancing sexual pleasure.
