Kwara And Lagos Chapters Of APC Clash Over Saraki
The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC)
following the election of National Assembly leaders took a new turn on
July 4, Saturday.
Premium Times reports that Sulyman Buhari, the publicity secretary of the Kwara APC, has asked its Lagos chapter to caution its spokesperson, Joe Igbokwe.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Buhari urged the Lagos APC to re-orientate Igbokwe “on his responsibilities in order to halt further embarrassment that his divisive commentary magnets to
Lagos APC.”
“This caution is unavoidable to arrest the dangerous trend whereby a spokesman continues to cause damage to the image of the same party he was elected to protect and promote,” Buhari noted.
It would be recalled that Igbokwe had condemned the election of Bukola Saraki as Senate president and Yakubu Dogara as House of Representatives speaker, describing the actions of both men as “treacherous” and asking the APC to sanction them.
Intending to resolve the crisis, the APC held the National Executive Council on July 3, Friday. At the meeting, boycotted by Bola Tinubu, the party’s national chairman, President Muhammadu Buhari appealed to the APC members not to waste the party’s electoral success and place national interest above self-interest.
“What ever your personal interests, put them in your pocket. Let APC work. Let the system work. I appeal to you to accept the superiority of the party. I cannot confine myself in Sambisa forest and refuse to participate in the meeting because I respect the superiority of the party.”
However, Buhari and other leaders of the APC failed to find the resolution to crisis that rocking the party over the National Assembly leadership. The peace moves of the governors were unsuccessful because the opposite groups could not accept the peace offers of some APC leaders.
