BH: Gov Obiano, FG Officials Meet Behind Closed Door

The governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano, on Thursday, July 9, held a closed door meeting with a federal government delegation on the transfer of 47 Boko Haram suspects to Ekwulobia Prisons in the state.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Governor Obiano assured the people of Anambra that the matter would soon be resolved, NAN reports.
According to him, the deliberations between his team and the seven-man team from the National Security Adviser’s office, was highly
successful.

Obiano said: “The matter will soon be over. Since the news of the transfer of the deadly suspects to Ekwulobia, I have been relentless in my efforts to engage all relevant authorities in Abuja.”
He stated that the dreaded suspects would soon be moved out of the state, adding that the presidency was fully aware of the strong feelings of Anambra people against the presence of the “high risk’’ suspects.
He therefore, called on the people of Anambra to remain calm and avoid violence.
“I, therefore, want to appeal to Anambra people to desist from anything that might lead to breach of the peace in the state,” he said.
The meeting was attended by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnemeka Achebe and Igwe Cyril Enweze of Umuoji.
Others in attendance were the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Okafor and the Anglican Bishop of Awka, Rev. Alexander Ibezim.
Reports that the federal government was planning to relocate Boko Haram prisoners to Anambra state has resulted in agitations by the people, accompanied by protests.
About a week ago, some Anambra youths invaded major roads in the state, protesting peacefully against the FG’s plans.

Governors from the South-eastern zone, strongly opposed to the decision by the federal government suggested they move the prisoners to Abuja, closer to them.
