APC Calls An Emergency Meeting
The governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) called an emergency meeting for July 2, Thursday.
Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state and chairman of the APC governors forum has said the meeting aimed to
resolve the National Assembly crisis and the political crisis in the party.
Okorocha’s representive said that “the House of Assembly issue is important, but in our view the real issue is to make peace and move forward (within the APC).”
However, he didn’t give specifics about the program of the gathering but said that Okorocha is centred on making peace between competing parts in the party.
The governors are set to discuss these subjects ahead of the APC National Executive Committee Meeting, which will be held on July 3 at 10 am.
Both Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara will attend the meeting.
President Muhammadu Buhari also plans to be present.
It will be the first time when Buhari will be meeting with the two APC factions together since the election of NASS leadership.
The ruling party was involved in a political crisis, which was worsened when an APC faction joined with Peoples Democratic Party members in the Senate and secretly elected Senator Bukola Saraki in as Senate President.
A similar move was taken in the House of Representatives with Yakubu Dogara elected as Speaker of the House.
